During one of our winter investigations on animal- welfare during transport at the EU/Turkish border in 2012, the teams of Eyes on Animals and Animal Welfare Foundation found 2 abandoned puppies, approximately 8 weeks old. Because they were so young, motherless and freezing from the cold, we were worried they would not survive.
We therefore brought them to the municipality shelter, promising the people in charge that we would take the puppies as soon as they are allowed to leave the country (7 months). When a friend of us wanted to visit the puppies after a few months, one was gone (we were told she had been adopted) but the other one, "Selma", was locked in a small kennel without any social contact.
We were shocked and had to look for an alternative. After our friend found a small dog hotel in the area, Selma was taken to this place where she is allowed to play around with other dogs and have more space. Still, Selma is afraid of humans and tries to avoid contact with them.
She is now approximately 12 months old and needs a person that she can trust, has
the patience to socialize her and has experience with dogs.
UPDATE DECEMBER 2012!!
Iris from Animal Welfare Foundation has brought Selma back to Germany where she is staying at a good shelter and receiving professional training and psychological help from a friend of Eyes on Animals, who is a wonderful dog trainer and ethologist. Selma can now also be visited in the shelter in Germany. If you are seriously interested in adopting her, please contact:
